What Is CSG? PDF Print E-mail
  • Coffee Shop Generation is a simple concept to get people meeting together on a regular basis over a cup of coffee in a non threatening environment.

  • It is a Mentoring/Support process enabling people to focus on one on one relationships.

  • It is an accountability process for people who recognize the need for people to speak into their lives.

  • It is an opportunity to reach out to others

  • It is the opportunity to mobilize people to involvement in community projects.

How Does It Work?

  • CSG requires members to commit to facilitating two coffee shop interactions per month. Please note, it could be in your workplace or any where else, not just in a formal coffee shop environment.

  • One would be within someone they would regard as a mentor or support person in their lives. This person could be anyone who could make a positive contribution into their life.

  • The second would be with someone with whom they could play the mentor or support role. This person could be someone they already have relationship with or anyone who is a potential friend or needs support and encouragement. It could even be a stranger just met that day.

  • Members are required to facilitate these coffee meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. The time of day is not important, but the days are. Rituals or traditions build habits. These Wednesdays must become a habit, a part of your life. It doesn’t matter which Wednesday you mentor or are mentored.

  • We will provide support tools on the website (www.mycsg.org) to help you get the most out of these times. E.g. listening skills, mentoring skills.

  • From time to time we will mobilize people through the website to having coffee meetings with specific members of the community. E.g. we might say “on this Wednesday invite a member of your local police services for coffee and just support and be an encouragement to them.”

  • We will also from time to time offer training opportunities for our members.

  • We will also mobilize people to community projects as we grow and develop the potential to make a greater difference  in our communities.

  • We will invite you to use our website as a communication and networking tool. It has been set up as a community website. It becomes the way in which CSG members in different communities and around the world can develop relationships and support and encourage each other.

What The CSG Coffee Meeting Is Not?

  • It is not just a social outing. It is a proactive time to live out the commitments made in the CSG Declaration on signing  up.

  • It is not a teaching, training or preaching session. The focus is mentoring, support, encouragement and accountability.

  • It is not a business meeting. This does not mean that possible opportunities may not arise, but they can be pursued in other meetings.

  • It is not agenda driven. We will not give you a formula to say what to do next. You give your own flavor and style to the  process, but keep it relational and natural.

  • It is not aimed at big groups. It is meant to be one on one coffee interactions.

How do I now take Action?

  2. Email a friend:

Send a friend an email and encourage them to sign the CSG Declaration and to become one of the team.

  4. Start Meeting for Coffee:

Join us as we meet all over the world on the first and third Wednesdays of the month in coffee shops at times convenient to you. Remember one Wednesday you are the Mentor – the next you are the Mentee.

  5. Take Further Action:

Look for ways to play a bigger role within your community. Mobilize others in your area to involvement in projects that make a difference in your community. Some projects we would initiate, others are up to you as you see an opportunity and a need.

  6. Tell Us About It:

Through the website give us feedback about what you are doing and success stories you have had. Tell us to about significant times you have had in your coffee shop interactions. Even tell us about the struggles you are facing. You will find different pages on the www.mycsg.org website that would best suit what you have to say E.g. The Success Stories page or the Forum where you can talk informally to others every day.
